Actually, we changed the system from the one brad just described to one that analyzes the apache logs once a day and updates a database of downloads. So if a mp3 is accessed through the flash player or via http download it would count as a download.

this will mean that the download counts will go up faster than before for those shows that are accessed without going to the webpage.

duplicates of different kinds are filtered so that one person downloading materials from one item are only counted once.

it counts, if a person actually downloads/views the art
in a way that is not "shown to them" like it is
in the upper left corner of the details page.

so for example, if one simply visits this page:
http://www.archive.org/details/GrowingYounger
the upper left image view doesn't count as a download.

however, if one uses the flash player to listen to the music, then it will count as a download.

How do you get the album art to download with the album itself. I've followed the rules to the letter (I'm certain), but I can't get the images to be a part of the album package. How do I do it?

Thanks
Joe

you can use the program "lame" to make an mp3 to upload to us (or use wherever).

use option "--ti JPEG" with a JPEG that is 128K or less
and that should do it!

(that's what we do for our forthcoming LP (record) digitized items...)

Hi, has anyone noticed that the download counts have not been registering in the last week or so? Is it down or something? And does anyone know when it will be up again?

Counters are still not working for our files we uploaded since about April or June.

If you look at our podcast episodes in the search URL below, you'll see that there are no download counts for all episodes since episode #32. WHY?

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%22PMlessonsLearned.com%22&;sort=-publicdate

Can you fix this?

Hi Brewster,

Is it possible to differentiate how many people download the files from a link out of this site? Or do you have an idea how approximately the percentage of people who come through outside links?

that would be great, but we do not have the analysis software hooked up to do this. It is on the wish list.
